The IGU Regional Conference (IRC 2026), to be held in Istanbul from 17 to 21 August 2026, will bring together the global geography community to explore the diverse dimensions of natural and human systems. Hosted at Istanbul University, the conference aims to highlight the importance of geographical science, foster international collaboration, and encourage the exchange of ideas on pressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainable resource management, cultural heritage preservation, and the rapidly evolving field of digital geography. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in scholarly sessions, build new partnerships, and experience the historical and cultural richness of Istanbul through various social and academic activities.
As part of the conference, the IGU Commission of Mountain Studies (CMS) invites inter- and transdisciplinary abstract submissions for its Mountain Studies Symposium. The symposium will serve as a platform for researchers and practitioners interested in mountain environments to share their work and contribute to meaningful discussions. We look forward to welcoming colleagues from around the world to this important gathering and to strengthening the global dialogue within geographical science.
