We are proud to announce that Dr. Fausto Sarmiento, Full Professor of Mountain Science at the University of Georgia and Chair of the IGU Commission of Mountain Studies (IGU-CMS), has been honored with the 2025 Distinguished Landscape Practitioner Award by the North American Chapter of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE-NA). The award was presented at the IALE-NA annual meeting held in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, from April 13–17, 2025.

This award recognizes individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the application of Landscape Ecology principles to real-world problems.

For nearly 30 years, Dr. Sarmiento has advanced the fields of Mountain Geography, Cultural Landscapes, and Biocultural Heritage. As editor of the Montology series and author/editor of ten influential books, he has shaped both global and Latin American perspectives on Highland Ecology. His contributions continue to influence scholarship, conservation policy, and sustainable mountain practices worldwide.
