We are delighted to announce the release of the English version of the popular science storybook Erebus and the Moving Mountains, originally written in Spanish by Prof. Irasema Alcánta-Ayala. This creative and inspiring work introduces readers of all ages to the fascinating world of landslides and disaster risk, combining scientific knowledge with engaging storytelling.
In the story, set in the run-up to a Zombie Council celebration, Erebus and his friends face unexpected transformations in a mountainous castle. Their journey leads them to discover the hidden realities of the mountains, the silent anguish of forests, and aspects of nature they had never realized as humans. Like investigators at a crime scene, the characters piece together unknown elements to solve a bigger puzzle, offering readers a captivating adventure while raising awareness about disaster prevention.
The book also includes a specialized glossary of geomorphology terms—the science that studies the shapes, origins, and dynamics of Earth’s surface—helping readers understand the scientific vocabulary used in the story. For those eager to explore further, a list of suggested scientific and popular publications is provided.
We warmly congratulate our CMS colleague, Prof. Alcánta-Ayala, for this outstanding contribution—a wonderful example of how science communication can connect research and society.
